You Boke What?
I've had a lot of time on my hand lately- well sorta. We've been anticipating the arrival of hubby home from Iraq. Every day has been, "any day now", for about a week. He calls, he's coming, he's delayed, he's not coming, he doesn't call (maybe he's coming). It's been crazy.
Well, now my crazy life just got a little crazier. I got a phone call from the Med-Tech at Maya's school saying that she had fallen and they put ice on her leg. Ok, no big deal, right? She's not screaming or crying but she also said Maya couldn't put weight on her leg and maybe I should come get her. So I did, not thinking anything was wrong. Maybe it was bruised, maybe nothing, maybe not worth my time to get off work for.
I met her at school and saw that she was being wheeled around in a desk chair and could not walk at all. I drove straight to our med stop which is an urgent care clinic (I won't use the er unless we are actually dieing). Vitals and rays were taken. Then the doctor called me privately out of her room to talk to me. "Ms, she has a broken hip. I have never seen a child with a broken hip." He showed me the xrays. It was clear as day.
We rushed her over to the city hospital and went right into surgery. The orthopedic surgeon put two pins into her hip to put the bone back together. Surgery was quick and everything went well. She went into recovery and then into a room to recuperate for the next few days.
Word got out quickly and Maya had a steady flow of visitors. Her classmates came, her favorite teacher, Mr. C came, her pe coaches came, friends from church came. I also received phone calls, texts and facebook messages. One thing that came out of this is that you find out just how loved you are. It was awesome and overwhelming at the same time.
Maya began to heal quickly and was released from the hospital early. She will walk with a walker for a few months. She will start physical therapy after the new year. She will also wait to go back to school after the new year. She's doing great and is in good spirits. She misses her friends from school but enjoys all the attention she's getting at home.
We are still waiting on daddy's arrival and hope it's soon. It's been a wild and crazy couple of months.

Happy 15th Birthday Jasmine!
Bazinga! It's Jas' new word from her favorite character.
Jas turned 15 and we still can't believe it. I picked up her driver's ed book from the DMV so she can start studying for her permit. Since her birthday fell on Thanksgivng weekend, she decided to wait a week to have her party. These are pictures from having cake on her birthday. And please, I know these are like the worst pics ever. We really just hung around the house since it was black friday and did not get dressed for the occation. And yes, I forgot to buy candles. She's lucky I found a 5 hidden in the drawer!
Happy Thanksgiving!
This year we played it low-key for Thanksgiving. I did, however, make my white trash, brown paper bag turkey. Although, I only cooked a turkey breast. It was enough for us and still very juicy and delicious!
I also cooked a ham requested by Jasmine, green been casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, pasta salad and deviled eggs. We had lots of food left over for seconds and leftovers. But it was all good the next couple of days too.

Happy 13th Birthday Maya!
You're a Teenager now!!!
Maya had a great birthday. Her friends came over,
We had cake,
She opened presents,
And OMG,
Wait, REALLY!?
You're the BEST!
She was so happy to get a new iPod. It was nothing fancy, just a little, new nano. But it was exactly what she asked for but wasn't expecting to get. Happy Birthday Maya! We love you!

A Spootackular Party
We threw a Halloween party for the girls and their friends. My friend and I had fun planning the night with frightful foods, decorations, music and games.
There were goolish drinks:
Devil's Eyes:
Severed Fingers:
Brain Cupcakes:
Eyeballs:
And much more including Witches Chips and Buger Dip, Diarreah Cookies and Bloody Balls.
They all dressed up for the party, enjoyed the food and the games.
Maya's Lungs
Maya had to make a 3-D organ for science class. She decided she wanted to do a heart. After searching the web, we found a great template and decided she (we) were going to make it out of rice krispie treats and fondant like they do on Cake Boss. I went shopping and gathered all of our supplies. The next day Maya brings me her rubic stating what needs to be included in her project, and in big bold letters it reads, "Do Not Use Food". Ugh, I could kill. Maya refused to use playdough. So we were back at square one. She searched on the web for some ideas and found a working lung that she can make. This is what she came up with:
It actually works. When you pull the diaphram down, the lungs fill with air and when you push it up, the lungs exhale. You can also blow air into the straw to get the same effect.

Catch Up
I'm a bad blogger!
But really, we've been busy. The girls started school and are doing well. All of us are getting up at 5:30 and out the door by 6:40. They are all making A's in everything, joining clubs, making friends, going to dances and football games. I have returned to work and have been going to physical therapy for my back from the car accident . It still hurts (like none other sometimes) but I'm getting stronger. I have been on top of my exercises and heat therapy. Charlie has been working hard too. He went to MOB school for two weeks. He loved the combat training. He was able to really get some aggression out. He was out in the field for a week in this GA heat that we can't get a break from. His words coming home, "I didn't die!" - from the heat or from their combat exercise. That's good, I'd like to have him around a little while longer. Things are only going to get busier around here. I hope I can keep up.
