Pumpkin Carvings

We had our annual pumpkin carving night. Everyone picked their own pumpkins and carvings and got straight to work. Digging out the guts of the pumpkin is always fun. The girls seem to be grossed out every year.

I think we are ready for trick-or-treaters this year! I am so excited. It will be the first time that we will have guests ringing our bell ready for candy and treats.

Very Silly Scenes From the Farm

Fall Fun

Today the girls and I went to Twin Oaks Fun Farm. It was a cute little place with much to offer for some Saturday fall fun.
We took a hay ride. The girls were wondering what was so great about this. They kept asking, "Why do we ride in a tractor on hay?" It's just another thing you miss out on living overseas so long.

We rode around the corn maze and sunflower field.

We saw a donkey and took some time out to feed and pet it.

This lama sure knows how to smile for the camera. He was sweet though, no spitting on us.

The donkey called us back for more petting.

Then the fun really began. We found a pumpkin shoot. The girls had a great time shooting tiny pumpkins across a field with these cool slingshots.
Ready...Aim...Fire!
A direct hit. See Kiera's pumpkin in mid-air?

And Maya actually landed a pumpkin in one of those buckets!!
We all had a fun time. The girls were in a silly mood (I think it was the only way they could deal with me taking them to a pumpkin patch with the rest of the kids there being 5 and under).

Lucky

I totally made this shirt for Charlie. He's a Napoleon Dynamite fan. He knows all his lines and of coarse he sounds like him too. He's going to like this.

Thing 1 and Thing 2

You wouldn't believe it (well, I don't believe it), but I actually made these shirts. Jasmine and her friend, Katherine, decided they want to be Thing 1 and 2 for Halloween this year. So we searched all over town for these shirts. I knew we wouldn't find them but was hoping since it was the Halloween season that they'd turn up somewhere. We did actually find a full adult costume but it was $50 and I didn't want to pay that much. So we picked up a couple of red shirts for $3 each, white and black fabric paint for $6 and freezer paper which I already had. I got this idea from www.dana-made-it.com and am not claiming it as my own.

First, print off your decoration from the computer. Place freezer paper dull side up over the copy. And trace around the picture.

Using a hobby knife, cut out the picture.

Iron on the freezer paper to the shirt. It creates a great seam so the paint doesn't spread.

Fill with fabric paint.

Once the paint is dry, remove the paper. I had to use two colors (which I don't suggest for first-timers). It was difficult and I don't have a steady hand. But it came out cute and the way I wanted it. Place a towel over the ink once it is dry and iron over it to keep the paint from fading in the wash.

It's Fair Time!!

We went to the Georgia National Fair today. The weather was awesome (actually a bit hot at 90 degrees). The girls had so much fun riding the rides!

See how happy they were!
A little serious here.
They reallyliked flying on this one.

Wow, they got really high.

Maya rode a mini coaster.

And they enjoyed the farris wheel too.

They had so much fun, they asked to come back next year!

Leaves are FALLing

I love the fall season. I love the cooler air, the pretty colors that the leaves change, the pumpkin patches and hay rides. The girls and I made some cookies today. They may not look the best but we had fun anyway. They aren't too bad looking considering I haven't made cookies in six months. But at least they will taste great.

Art By Design

After many months of scouring the stores to find artwork for the kids' bedrooms, we decided paying top dollar for something they wouldn't really appreciate was not the answer. So the kids picked up some canvases, paint and brushes and made their own artwork.

I think they had a good time being artistic. They were creative and proud of their pieces.
